TOLLAND, CT — A 45-year-old Florida man is accused of falsely reporting an active shooter incident at a strip joint in Tolland following an altercation at the bar inside the establishment, state police said.

Paul A. Jones, of West Palm Beach, FL, has been charged with falsely reporting a large-scale emergency, a felony, according to an arrest report. He was also charged with the misuse of the 911 system and interfering with police, both misdemeanors, according to the report.

He is currently free after posting a $75,000 bond and is due back in Rockville Superior Court May 4, judicial system records show.

A warrant for the case was served last week for the Nov. 3 incident, state police said.

According to the warrant, at 6:51 p.m. that day, shots were reported fired at the Electric Blue Cafe in Tolland after Jones was escorted out of the bar area by a bouncer.

Twenty-one minutes earlier, Jones is accused of entering the bar area and hurling expletives at a staff member who asked him if he wanted a "shoulder massage." He also began swearing at staff members and customers and "shoved" cash across the bar that fell onto the floor in the midst of ordering two shots, according to the warrant.

A bouncer was then asked to escort Jones from the building by management, according to the warrant.

Jones is accused of calling 911 after the altercation to falsely report someone "firing shots off" at the Electric Blue from a phone traced to him by state police.

The Electric Blue is located at 62 Merrow Road in Tolland.
